Warfare Guide for Cosmic Travel
Part fact – Part allegory
Realities of the Spiritual Realm
Poof! Watch out for that first step – It’s a doozy.
“Where did everyone go?” Clara turned around and around and her comrades were nowhere to be seen!
All she could see, if you call this seeing, is the direction her thoughts will take her. If she thinks faith thoughts, she sees a path ahead of her. If she worries, she circles round and round, spiraling downward. Fear creates a downward pull into the dark shadows. She wonders if this is what it means to walk by faith and not by sight.
Meantime, back on the mountain everyone is perplexed. What happened to Clara? She chose to be the first to step out on the nonexistent path and then she just disappeared!
“Clara can you hear us?” they call.
In another place, all alone, Clara remembers the map and pulls it out of her pocket. She sees that where the red line ends, a golden line continues. As she studies the map, she also sees what appears to be a vast expanse. If her calculations are correct, it is just a short distance ahead. Recalling the faithfulness of God strengthens her. She heads out having no idea where she is going.
The path leads her to what could only be called the Vast Horizon. Clara strains to see and hear, but it is just a cacophony of sound and blurs of movement. Things swoop, large groups march military style, and clouds form and disperse. Fronts, looking much like the stormcast on the weather channel, move in and out.
What is all this? How will she know what is good and what is not? The hum and buzz make it difficult for her to clear her head. She wonders if there is any place to get away from all this commotion.
“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuse and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feather, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand t thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation.” i
The secret place that is the place to abide! By faith, Clara establishes herself under the shadow of the Almighty. From here she hopes to watch, listen, and learn what she needs to know to “fight the good fight of faith”ii in this Vast Horizon.
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. iii
“Hey” someone says, “I just saw her, she went around that corner.”
“Quick” says one of the others. “Catch up with her, and hurry! After what we’ve seen, we need all the help we can get.”
Clara is moving quickly now. She is gleaning an understanding of the battlefront she saw when she entered the Vast Horizon. Her study of the history of the enemy’s activities over past generations is most helpful.
That study is now like a window into time past. Clara can see the enemy’s seeds sown in the fertile soil of men’s hearts. Deception, greed, perversion, lawlessness, and strife, showered down from the high places at strategic times and locations.
She can see army hoards of darkness sent to seduce, reinforce lies, and stir up rebellion. Massive clouds of thought barraging whole areas of land, locking minds with demonic control, as the masses feel smug and satisfied that they are free of the constraints of righteousness and justice.
Totally absorbed with what she is looking at, Clara suddenly gasps in surprise. Her former corps members are present!
“How did you get here? What have you seen? Are you all safe?” asks Clara.
There is indeed some catching up to do and notes to compare. Most especially, what they all want to know is why they are in this place.
With the catching up complete, they return to their respective rooms. Once again, assignment papers await them. This time, however, Clara approaches them with apprehension. Of all she has been through, somehow, this assignment has weightiness beyond anything she has yet experienced. She senses that whatever lies ahead involves more than her life alone.
Is she, are they, prepared for the conflict ahead? Apprehensively she opens the sealed orders:
Infiltrate the Vast Horizon
Plant bombs with the uncertain
Rescue the uninitiated
Move to the next assignment before detection
Next – The Gates of Hell
