The battle to live in the Spirit
It is a spiritual battle.
It is a carnal battle.
It is a battle that we must win!
When we are born into this world, we are born equipped to grow and develop. We are born with the senses we need to perceive and understand the world.
It is no different when we are born from above. We are born from above with the necessary senses to understand this new world.
Light enters with the new birth. God quickens your spirit and it comes alive to Him. You receive empowerment and the capacity to learn and grow in understanding of the heavenly realm into which you are born.
We are born from above with the capacity of sight. Albeit in its infant stage, it is the capacity to see beyond the natural. It is the ability to comprehend and understand spiritual things. It is spiritual perception.
Jesus perceived the intent of the heart as well as the need of those who came to Him. He did not answer their question with a direct answer. He answered them out of His perception of their need. He saw behind the events and the people, beyond the natural and through to the eternal. He saw into the spiritual realm.
Nicodemus came to Jesus recognizing Him as a teacher, and that God was with Him. Jesus responds to him by telling him that his spiritual vision needs rectifying by an entire revolution of his inner man. He told him that he must be born from above to see the kingdom of God.i
The woman at the well speaks to Jesus of natural water. He speaks to her of living water that would spring up into everlasting life. As she inquires of the controversy in the places of worship, the Lord brings up before her the great Object of all acceptable worship – The Father.ii
Just as children born on earth, believers must grow in the use of their senses.
If you are always trying to understand spiritual truth with your natural understanding you will never mature. You will remain an infant, ever needing spiritual milk.
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.iv
Overthrowing the king
Light dawns and you see the King. Nevertheless, you may not immediately recognize a slight problem. A long standing king sits on the throne and is braced and armed to prevent any overthrow!
A few verses from the Blues Brothers song Soul Man expresses it well…
Got what I got the hard way
And I’ll make it better each and every day
So honey don’t you fret
Cause you ain’t seen nothing yet
I’m a soul man
The soul man in each of us has been king. Overthrowing that king is only possible through breaking. It is only then that spiritual sight and advancement can truly develop and mature. It is truly A cracked entrance.
Without spiritual sight, we will remain as blind men trying to describe an elephant by holding its trunk. If that is not problematic enough, we will argue that the trunk is the sum total of the elephant!
Only those who can see recognize the full scope and capacity of the elephant. Despite this, they will not be able to convince the blind person. Nevertheless, we can help ourselves and by our actions, benefit the entire body…
It is time to learn to live and walk in the spirit,
no matter what it costs!
It is time to draw the line, the bottom line!
